Herokia Trickster
In Greek mythology, several figures are known for their trickery and cunning. Hermes, the messenger god, is a prominent trickster, known for his wit, thievery, and role as a divine messenger. Prometheus, the Titan, defied Zeus by giving fire to humanity, a trick that had profound consequences. Other notable tricksters include Eris, the goddess of discord, and Odysseus, the hero famous for his cleverness and the Trojan Horse. Sisyphus, a mortal known for his cunning, was also punished for his trickery.
Hermes:
· He is the son of Zeus and Maia, and is known as the god of trade, wealth, luck, fertility, animal husbandry, sleep, language, thieves, and travel.
· His trickery is evident in stealing Apollo's cattle shortly after his birth.
· He is often depicted with a sly smile in ancient art.
Prometheus:
· He is the Titan who stole fire from the gods and gave it to humanity, enabling them to progress.
· For this act of defiance, Zeus punished him by chaining him to a rock where an eagle would eat his liver daily.
Eris:
· The goddess of discord and chaos.
· She is blamed for causing conflict and starting wars.
· She is often depicted as a female trickster figure.
